Kick Start Funding

What is Kick Start Funding?

Kick Start Funding is available to the children of Radian residents who want to improve their lives through personal development.

For example, you may want sports coaching or equipment, music or dance teaching or help with travel expenses. If so, Kick Start Funding could give you the money to make it possible.

Who can apply?

If you are from 11 to 18 years old and live in a home owned by Radian, you can apply for a grant of up to £300 towards your project or purchase.

Life Improvement Grants

What is a Life Improvement Grant?

As residents you know the priorities for improving the places where you live. Your Area Panel has a limited budget for improvement schemes that residents suggest. The average grant awarded during 2011/12 is £2,500.

Some examples of improvements are:

  • Erecting a new fence to improve security
  • Improving the appearance of a communal area so residents feel safe to use it
  • Redesigning a shrub bed to reduce anti-social behaviour.

The grant must be used for schemes that improve the environment or security.
When thinking of a scheme, please consider the following :

  • Is it practical – e.g., is there enough room?
  • Will the scheme have a lasting effect?
  • Will it improve the area?
  • What environmental improvement will it create?
  • Does it have health & safety benefits?
  • Will it improve the security of the area?
  • What percentage or number of Radian residents will benefit?
  • Will the wider community benefit?
  • Are there any ongoing costs?
  • Will it need planning permission or building regulations approval?

Things to think about.

Consult other residents – you will need to consult other residents who will benefit from the Life Improvement Grant. You could do a survey, use the minutes from a resident association meeting or get a list of signatures from people supporting the bid.

The majority of residents must be in favour and benefit from the proposal. You will have to prove that have consulted and show what the residents said.

Speak to your Neighbourhood Officer, they will be able to help with the consultation, help you complete the form, identify any hidden costs (for things like increased service charges, maintenance and annual serving costs of CCTV) and advise on any planning or building regulations.

Quotes for the work – Your Neighbourhood Officer can help with this if you want.

Community Grants

What is a Community Grant?

A community grant is money that any community or voluntary group can apply for in an area where Radian has properties. We offer grants of up to £1,500 to support the work of groups who provide services that meet the needs of Radian residents and the wider community.

A grant might help to fund a project that reduces anti-social behaviour or provides a service to residents who live in hard to reach areas.

Residents on the Area Panel assess all applications against a standard set of criteria throughout the year. They make sure any funding requests meet Radian’s aims of involving and helping residents and local communities.

Projects we have helped

  • A multi cultural arts day
  • New chairs for a local scout group
  • Football skills courses for children during the summer holidays
  • Picnic tables outside a community hall
  • A local service that supports teenage girls, young mums and other women

Does your community or voluntary group have a project you need some financial help with? For example:

  • Are young people leading a project for you that will be available to other young people?
  • Do you need money to help continue providing transport for your elderly customers?
  • Do you need new equipment for your playgroup?

If so your group could receive up to £1,500 towards your community service project.
