Everyone was going on a lovely day trip. I was not included as I had played up (yet again). So I found myself with no-one to play with, no toys were allowed for my punishment. I decided to go swimming. I was enjoying myself immensely. As I jumped into the water I found myself finding it hard to breathe. No-one there to help. I drifted away, bumping into things but I don’t know what they were. Then a voice spoke to me. “You won’t make it”, the voice whispered, “you won’t make it”. I was floating with lots o f people, they were all saying, “return to the orphanage”, whispering, “go back, be sorry for being bad.” I tried but could not get out of the water. I felt so heavy. Then a voice said, “Give me your hand”. All of a sudden I was standing in the hallway of the large house that I was brought up in; so quiet, not a sound from anyone. I wandered into the large dormitory. Everyone was asleep. “I’m here”, I shouted. No-one moved. I made my way to the day room. Everything was there as it was the day I went for a swim. I wandered into the large kitchen. All the tables were laid. My place on one of the tables was vacant with nothing laid. Then I heard crying. It was the lady that looked after me. She was saying that a new child would be arriving to take my place. I wandered into my bedroom. My bed was freshly made and everything brand new. “I’m here”, I shouted, “please don’t let anyone take my place.” No-one heard me. No-one could see me. I wandered around and sat next to the new orphan. I spoke to her and told her never to play up and never be naughty. Always do as they say and not be like me as I was the orphan who was bad. I missed out on a lot of things but it was my own fault. If only I had realised how good my life was. Now no-one can see me; no-one can hear me. No-one hears my cries. I’m just the Ghost of the Lonely Orphan.
